Excellent Cuisine Paired with the Perfect Setting Forms an ideal Combination for a Good Dining Experience
Joburg Life & Travel – Spring/Summer 2023
Never mind ‘what’s for dinner’. Where to go is a far more pressing question – especially at Steyn City, where there are as many dining options as you have cravings.
There’s no denying that when it comes to choosing a restaurant, atmosphere counts just as much as the menu. That’s what keeps people flocking to Joburg’s favourite suburbs – and, with a slew of newly opened eateries and an irresistible vibe, Steyn City certainly answers the brief in the ‘New North.’
The best part? Although every offering shares the magnificent 2 000 acre parkland which is Steyn City’s signature as a backdrop, each has its own special ambiance. Take Nineteen Restaurant, for example. As the development’s very first restaurant, this is where it all started for Steyn City: the diners who first flocked here to take in the view over Steyn City’s famed Nicklaus design championship golf course while enjoying a sundowner still remain loyal to their favourite bistro-style hang out. That said, with the addition of several new features, Nineteen now appeals to a broader audience: there’s the business crowd who like to take in a round of golf after discussing new industry trends at the venue’s meeting facilities, for example or linger over a business lunch.
The Farmhouse has a far more casual feel. This is your go-to if you’re trying to manage the tricky balance between enjoying good food with family and friends while keeping the children entertained: thanks to the restaurant’s gorgeous outdoor area (complete with play equipment including a tractor), you’ll have all the time you need to linger over your lunch. The Farmhouse’s pretty garden setting also makes it the perfect choice for a celebratory gathering, whether you’re getting everyone together for book club, giving the bride-to-be her final send-off, commemorating a milestone birthday or even saluting an expectant mom at her baby shower.
Café del Sol Steyn City, needs no introduction to Johannesburg foodies; it is already well entrenched on the culinary scene thanks to its tradition of creating wonderful moments shared over authentic, Italian-inspired dishes. This latest iteration of the famous brand is particularly special, though, because of its location on the piazza at Steyn City’s flagship development, City Centre. You would be forgiven for imagining you’re in Italy when you take in the tables laden with fresh anti-pasti, pizzas straight out of the wood fired oven and other delicacies, while children play on the square in a scene not at all unlike something you would see in a European capital. Extra bonus: Café del Sol has its own deli, so you can take home homemade pasta sauces, speciality breads, cheese and charcuterie, and other scrumptious goodies to create your very own feast.
