Our new speed tracking and monitoring system is now fully deployed across the estate

Estate speed monitoring now fully operational

Our new speed tracking and monitoring system is now fully deployed across the estate, allowing us to accurately monitor the driving behaviour of both residents and visitors.

Upgrades to this system have helped us enhance overall safety on the estate. This has long been a top priority for the SCMA.

Unfortunately, we’ve had to issue more warnings and penalties than we’d like. While our goal is to ensure the safety of everyone on the estate, continued non-compliance forces us to take a firmer stance.

In the case of visitors, any individual caught exceeding the speed limit will be immediately blocked and potentially blacklisted until the fine has been paid. The resident who issued the access code will be duly informed, so that they can notify their visitor accordingly.

For residents, should the system flag ongoing speeding violations, the matter will be reviewed in line with estate protocols. That said, we currently assess each case on an individual basis, and where a genuine mistake has occurred, particularly within a specific speed range, we do consider waiving the penalty.

To reiterate, the estate speed limit has been reduced to 50km/h on the main arterial road and remains at 40km/h in residential suburbs. We urge all drivers to respect these limits, not only for their own safety but for the wellbeing of fellow residents, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Need assistance? Use the new SCMA Help Desk

There’s been great uptake of this new communication platform, and we’ve received excellent feedback regarding the Help Desk’s efficiency and response times. Thank you to all residents who’ve embraced this system. It’s helping us serve you better.

To further streamline communication and ensure every query is properly handled, we remind residents to use the Steyn City Help Desk as the central point of contact for all estate-related enquiries. Whether you’re reporting an issue such as lights out on the Promenade or looking for assistance, services, or solutions, the Steyn City Help Desk is your go-to resource. Please note that we have implemented this system to replace direct notifications to staff such as phone calls or WhatsApp messages to ensure that every query is tracked, monitored and resolved efficiently. This is especially important, as staff members who are not on site or who are on leave may not have the resources to handle the issue. It’s vital that all requests are documented via the official Help Desk platform. This process helps us maintain consistency and accountability.

To reach us, please log your request via the Steyn City App, or email [email protected].

Operating hours are:

  • Monday to Friday: 07h00 – 19h00
  • Saturday: 08h00 – 13h00
  • Sundays & Public Holidays: Closed

Queries submitted outside of these hours, including weekends, will be addressed the following working day.

Pioneering Safety and Security measures

Emergency medical response team

Recently, we proudly shed the spotlight on our dedicated medical response team and the emergency vehicle now stationed on-site. The SCMA reported an average of four medical incidents per month, all of which were attended to by our SLA Emergency Medical Services team. Several of these incidents required private medical support, while one critical situation required heli-evac support to transport the patient, ensuring prompt hospital care. We are committed to providing swift and effective medical assistance to ensure the well-being of our community.

Promenade-Post-Q4-2024--Ambulance

Speeding

The SCMA encounters weekly violations of our estate speed limits by some residents and their guests. We would like to remind all residents that they are responsible for the actions of their guests and any road safety violations within the estate. Please ensure that your guests are informed of these rules when providing access codes. This will enforce the efforts of our security officers at the gatehouse, who remind delivery personnel and couriers of our road safety and speed restrictions upon entry.

Regarding speed limits, feedback from our recent resident survey showed strong support for a reduction in the overall speed limit. Effective immediately, the maximum speed limit on all dual-lane major arterial routes is now 50 kph, while single-lane roads will remain at 40 kph. To ensure compliance from both residents and visitors, we have installed speed monitoring cameras throughout the estate.

Promenade-Post-Q4-2024-Recreation-Traffic

Unregistered resident casual staff members

We kindly remind all residents to ensure that their staff (including domestic workers, gardeners, and au pairs) are correctly registered and vetted on our system via our SCMA reception. The SCMA has recently had to address several unfortunate incidents involving unregistered staff being brought onto the estate by residents. Estate rules are designed to maintain a safe environment for everyone and to protect residents from the potential risks posed by unvetted workers. Please note that penalties may be imposed for violations reported by the security team to the SCMA. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Vehicle Tracking

We’re excited to share that significant progress has been made in advancing our new vehicle tracking technology, and we expect operations to be fully deployed Q1 of 2025. As we venture into this innovative territory, we’re enthusiastic about the system’s potential to enhance our security operations.

NB: Please contact our security nerve centre on 010 597 1111 for direct emergency assistance or requests after hours.

New awning at The Clubhouse – more space, more views all year round

The new fixed louvre awning on the Terrace at the Clubhouse is currently being installed and will be ready for use over the festive season. This addition creates a lovely shaded space overlooking the 18th hole during the summer months, and provides extra space during winter when the blinds are extended and the area will be heated. Over weekends, this space will double up as an exclusive seating area for our golf members.

The Bunker Project

The bunker revamp project is in full swing, with the first nine holes completed. We are now set to begin the second nine and hope to complete it early in the new year.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to improve the course!

New facilities

We’re busy finalising the basketball courts: the half court located beyond the braai pods in the Lagoon precinct is completed and already open for play. The second, a full size court situated below the soccer fields will be completed by early December. No bookings required, just pitch and play!

Promenade-Post-Q4-2024-Recreation-Basketball

Our new lawn bowls facility, located next to the Farmhouse, is set for completion by Q2 2025.

We’re also introducing pickleball to our range of racquet sports. Pickleball is an exciting paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. To accommodate this, we have converted our third tennis court into four pickleball courts, located adjacent to The Clubhouse, and these will be ready for use from December. Court bookings will be on the Playtomic App as per Padel bookings. Corne from the Steyn City Gym is managing this new facility including purchase/rental of bats and balls.

For more information, contact [email protected] or pop into the gym and speak to one of the staff members.

Steyn City Hotel by Saxon and Guild Restaurant: shared workspace, meeting and conference facilities

What an exciting month it’s been for Steyn City this November, with the recent opening of the Steyn City Hotel by Saxon, along with the Guild restaurant, shared workspace, meeting facilities, and conference rooms.

We are extremely proud to have partnered with Saxon Hotel, Villas and Spa (whose management team oversees operations) in this venture. The team has already demonstrated their unique brand of hospitality, where nothing is too much for the guest; a commitment to excellence which has seen the hotel endorsed by Leading Hotels of the World.

Our new apartment hotel presents 48 one- and two- bedroom hotel apartments, a three-bedroom Penthouse and a four bedroom Presidential suite. The hotel has an exclusive guest rooftop pool and bar area, with an exquisite bar and lounge area off the main reception where guests and residents can enjoy delicious cocktails and small plates.

It was wonderful to host residents on the evening of Wednesday, November 6, for a walk-through of the hotel and facilities, followed by a toast to the teams integral to its success and a bite to eat in Central Park at City Centre. From the enthusiastic feedback, it’s clear you are thrilled to have these facilities right on your doorstep, whether for hosting visiting family and friends, enjoying another great dining option for breakfast and lunch, or, as bookings have shown, making use of the business facilities for your own needs.

The launch has also piqued interest among the media and high-end magazines, who love the space for shoots, and the hotel will soon be featured on a prominent proudly African cover during the festive season.

For hotel and Guild reservations, please email Robyn Moodley at [email protected] between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

After-hours reservations will be directed to the Front Desk.

The main contact number for all enquiries is 087 584 5555.

Guild restaurant is open seven days a week, from 6am to 6pm with the added pleasure of a dinner service during the festive season till 2nd January 2025.

We’re pleased to bring you an update on our Growzone

Our Growzone is growing!

Since the launch of this project in October last year, we have provided 4,700 bunches of fresh veggies to 51 Early Childhood Development Centres in Diepsloot every month. That translates to nutritious meals for 3,262 children and staff members, every day. A very big thank you to our sponsors, the Steyn City Foundation, Auto & General and the Fidelity Group, who have made this project possible. Now, you can support this initiative, too. That’s because we’re launching The Greenery, a market store at the City Centre, where the beautiful produce from our Growzone will be available for sale every Saturday. Not only will you be able to stock up on freshly grown produce; every purchase you make will assist in making the Growzone sustainable, helping us bring even more nurturing to our communities.

The Greenery opening 6 September

The Steyn City Foundation originally established the Growzone to support the neighbouring community of Diepsloot. This project has since evolved into something even greater; introducing The Greenery, a vehicle for bringing fresh, seasonal, locally grown produce straight to our residents.

The Greenery is all about farm to fork; a concept that encompasses the various stages of food production and consumption, emphasising a more direct connection between the production of food on farms and its consumption on our plates. The idea is to minimise the distance and processes that food undergoes between its origin in the fields to the final consumer. This philosophy stresses the importance of sourcing food locally, reducing the carbon footprint associated with transportation, and often involves a commitment to sustainable farming practices. It also highlights the value of fresh, unprocessed, and nutrient-rich foods, contributing to healthier eating habits.

Every Saturday, The Greenery, an exquisite artisanal market store next to the Le Creuset store will offer a thoughtfully curated selection of seasonal items harvested directly from the Growzone alongside a range of wholesome, artisanal treats and lifestyle goodies.

Expect to find:

  • Fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs
  • Artisanal breads, pastries, and cakes
  • Farm-fresh dairy products and eggs
  • Homemade jams, preserves, and honey
  • Fresh country flowers, and potted herbs and blooms
  • Stylish kitchen linen and décor
  • Eco-friendly beauty and home products

It’s fresh, it’s local, and it’s part of Steyn City’s extraordinary lifestyle where community, convenience, and wellbeing are always in season.

Initial trading hours: Saturday from 08h00 to 14h00.

Discover and appreciate our environment

Growing momentum: Mpact Recycling participation

Cape Town recently hosted The Earthshot Prize, where the winners of this prestigious award were named. The event brought a global spotlight to our Mother City, and our country, while highlighting the environmental challenges the world faces. It was inspiring to learn of the many individuals and organisations pioneering technologies and practices around the globe to reduce carbon footprints and waste; however, the event also showcased the importance of sustainability for future generations.

Against this backdrop, we are proud to see our residents and hubs actively participating in our Mpact Recycling initiative, with 505 registered bins currently in use. Household recycling has steadily increased month by month in the 16 months since the initiative was launched, with an average of 8.42 kg of waste per household per month, recorded this year.

To provide broader context to these figures, MPact currently supports 10 estates under Service Level Agreements (SLAs). From January to October this year, Steyn City consistently outperformed eight of the other registered estates.

While it may seem small, our collective efforts are a catalyst for meaningful environmental change and a step toward a more sustainable future for all.

Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Clinic – using our environment to rehabilitate patients

While the ‘Nature at Steyn City’ WhatsApp group has become a hive of activity and interest, we’ve noticed that our residents have yet to spot some of our new wildlife residents, including an African Mole Rat, Eleanor the porcupine (who was fortunate enough to be named), a hedgehog, and a shrew.

These wild animals were recently treated and rehabilitated by the Johannesburg Wildlife Veterinary Clinic before being released back into our parkland, enriching our thriving ecosystem.

We are truly blessed to live alongside nature in a habitat that strengthens our connectedness with the world around us.

Let’s see who spots them first! If you’d like to join this WhatsApp group, please email [email protected]

Removal of invasive trees – a key responsibility to our environment

This is an ongoing project focused on the removal of invasive tree species. The removed trees are processed into mulch, which we then use in our landscaping efforts. From a water-wise and environmental management perspective, this initiative is not only a legal requirement but is also essential for maintaining the ecological balance. Our estate’s landscaping palette features indigenous trees exclusively, ensuring we stay true to sustainable practice.

Kaiyuree Moodley is warmly welcomed to the Club at Steyn City by Steven Louw, CEO of Steyn City Properties

Celebrating the people around us!

Women’s Month is a time to honour the women who uplift, inspire, and brighten our days.

Celebrating Women in Sport

On the topic of inspirational women: an extremely warm welcome to our newest Club at Steyn City ambassador, Kaiyuree Moodley. This dynamo has been playing golf since she was just four years old; now 24, she has left an incredible mark on the golf scene in her first year as a pro. Growing up in Lonehill, Kai honed her talent on the US collegiate circuit, attending the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. With a list of achievements including representing South Africa at the Youth Olympic Games in 2018 and a tied first finish at the Annika Invitational in the United States in 2019, along with a strong showing at this year’s Sunshine Ladies Tour, finishing 6th on the Investec Order of Merit and the 2025 R&A Rookie of the Year, it’s clear that Kai is set for greatness. (We also can’t help but notice the synergies between our two brands: just as Steyn City is focused on hosting one of the world’s top golf tournaments, Kai is aiming to become one of the world’s best female golfers).

We’re confident that Kai’s passion and enthusiasm for the game will help inspire and grow our community of female golfers.

Let’s hear it for our new Club General Manager, Pierre van Vuuren

We extend a warm welcome to Pierre as he takes on this pivotal leadership role at an exciting time for our Club.

Pierre, who officially takes up his appointment on 1 September, has a wealth of experience, having spent time at a prestigious club in the United States, followed by key roles at Serengeti, De Zalze and, most recently, San Lameer.

A PGA professional with a true passion for the game, both on and off the course, Pierre still plays competitively in PGA Pro-Am events whenever time allows.

We’re also delighted to welcome Pierre’s wife, Xenia, and their two young children, Joshua (6) and Lexi (4) to the Steyn City community. The family will soon be moving into the estate, and we’re confident they’ll feel right at home. Xenia is a talented baker who runs her own baking business and if you ever want to win Pierre over, just start chatting about soccer… he’s a loyal Manchester United supporter!

Cycling news

From golf to mountain biking, fans will be disappointed to learn that the Virgin Active 947 MTB and Kiddies Races, which are held annually at Steyn City, will not take place this year. This is due to a scheduling conflict with the G20 Summit in November.

That said, there has been no lack of cycling action at the estate. In June, we hosted the second leg of the Gauteng Primary Schools MTB Series. It was wonderful to witness the enthusiasm and skill shown by the next generation riders, here’s to many happy years in the saddle!

Steyn City: Promenade Post Aug 2025

Looking ahead, we’re excited to be hosting the fourth leg of the Gauteng High Schools MTB Series on Saturday, 30 August, right here on the estate. With a large number of participating schools expected, it promises to be another fantastic event celebrating young cycling talent.
